The Honest Local started as a place where people who actually live somewhere could tell you what it's like, pros and cons, no pitch. It still is. What we've added is the part that stands behind those opinions, the readings, the scores, the map, and an answer for every figure on the site.
Every weekday we fetch what the public sources published, and every hour for the readings that move that fast. We check each figure against the last one, keep the ones that pass, and write the source and the period next to every number. From those readings we build our own scores, rerun the rankings, redraw the map, and write the Movers’ Report for each state we cover. When a source changes a number, we change it on every page that carries it.
We don’t write posts in the threads, seed them or pay for them. We don’t estimate a missing reading or smooth an awkward one. We don’t take a call from a city’s tourism office. The numbers are the boring, checkable part of a site that otherwise runs on people’s opinions of the places they live, and we like it that way.

Reporters, researchers and anyone else are welcome to quote them. Each page has a Cite block with a ready line and a link, and the numbers are published under a license that asks only for credit and a link back. If you need a figure in a different shape, or you think one is wrong, use the contact page and we’ll answer.
