Filling up in Delaware costs more this month. AAA's got the state average at $4.37 a gallon, up from $4.24. That's real money if you're commuting every day, and it doesn't care whether your paycheck grew or not.
Good news if you're house hunting though. The median listing price dropped to $484,900 from $494,998, per FRED and realtor.com. Sellers are asking for less. That doesn't mean homes are worth less across the board, but it does mean less sticker shock when you start browsing.
Zillow's home value index barely budged, up to $406,074 from $405,257. Call that flat. Whatever's happening with listing prices, actual home values in Delaware aren't moving much either direction.
The job picture's a little better too. BLS has unemployment down 0.2 points to 4.8% in July. Small move, but it's headed the right way, and it's happening at the same time gas costs more. Neither fact erases the other. If you're weighing a move to Delaware, you're paying more at the pump but you've got slightly better odds of steady work and a little more breathing room on what a house will cost you upfront.
